I love Montana! Living here the past 11 years has sealed it. I have traveled to many parts of the country, and can find charm in most of them, but there is something about being able to get up in the morning, go for a run or a bike ride, then head out to catch the afternoon Caddis hatch and fish for a few hours, just to work up a hunger for some strong Ale and a nice dinner downtown.
Whew!
That is what I did last weekend back in my adopted hometown of Missoula.
It was graduation weekend for UM and the town was all a buzz. The Farmer's Market was going, it was a warm and sunny weekend and everyone just seemed happy. I have been recovering from my Red Lodge muscle pull from Hell and felt the need to get out and move.
So Saturday, my long time fishing partner, Morgan, and I headed out to Rock Creek. The fishing was good and in 4 hours we landed a dozen fish or so. Of course, it was the big one that got away. :0 It was topped off by some strong KETTLE HOUSE beer and a few fish stories!
Saturday night was all about the fish fajitas at El Cazador with the family, crazy Nadia, Kay and Terry! Yum.
Sunday was the easiest (and one of the quickest) rides to Clinton with the Le Petit group (Northern Rockies Racing) and was capped off with the 4+ mile climb up to the top of Pattee Cyn with Tyler...thanks bro.
BBQ for more food and, yes, beer. Can you tell that I was glad to be home?
Yep, people say things are different up here in Montana, you know, rural and all. But I just don't care. To me, it's freedom to do what I love to do...Fish, Bike, Run!
For some reason, that post made me really miss Missoula! Are you guys back for the summer?
ReplyDeleteAlison, I've been thinking of you a lot lately...lots of things here seem to make me think of you. Thanks for the post. We are in Billings, but are visiting Missoula as often as we can get away. We are here "for a limited time only" then it's on to the next adventure. KIT
