Desert Running

Okay, since I don't have the beach to run along, I'll have to make do with the desert. What I am finding is that the desert (in the winter) actually has some great off road running. I have already done 3 trail runs since moving out here, but this last one (yesterday) was magnificent!

I took off from "home" and headed to a local trailhead, 2 miles away. From there it was up, up, up and into the wilderness. For those of you who have never been to the desert, it is just as wild as any mountain forest. The desert has many challenges. The land can be very rugged, there are lots of cacti and dangerous critters, like rattlesnakes and mountain lions. Plus, you can get lost and die of exposure if you don't know what you're doing.

I grew up in the desert and know my way around. But I respect it and am always careful when I go into the back country.

Check out my web album of Saturday's run and you can be sure that I will be posting more big runs soon. Take care.
